Follow Me On…

Yes, two days in a row I am using the recipes from Muy Bueno cookbook. I just had to make this  warm pear cider and while I was cooking the chicken mole yesterday, I made this for our Friday power foods blog group. I mean how can you not look at the cup made from a pear and see cinnamon and anise and cloves and not say “I have got to make it”.

I am loving this book so much that next week when I have some friends over, my menu is planned from this book. It will be an awesome evening, sharing good food and great times.

I used the recipe and the idea from Yvette and I hope she will forgive me, but this is too good to not share and tell the world what an incredible cookbook Muy Bueno is and how breathtakingly beautiful these pears look when you set them up on a platter to serve.  And the cider is absolutely soulful.

Warm Pear Cider

Prep Time: 2 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 12 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 C pear juice (no sugar added)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise whole
  • pears to serve in

Instructions

  1. Put all the ingredients in a pan except the pears.
  2. Bring to a boil, simmer for 10 minutes
  3. Serve hot in cups or if using the pears, hollow out the pears and serve them in the pear cups.
  4. The pears are quite yummy after you drink the cider.

Notes

I made this non alcoholic and also increased the number of cloves per portion. Yvettes original recipe has some tequila incorporated. I will make that soon too!

For the Friday’s Power food blog group we had the Pear as our powder food.  Why are pears good for us?  They help build up a healthy Immune system,  help prevent osteoporosis, give you that required energy in the afternoon when eaten as a snack, have a lot of fiber which is excellent for digestive health, and have antioxidants.

38 Power Foods blog group  focuses on one ingredient each week taking inspiration from the book ; Power Foods: 150 Delicious Recipes with the 38 Healthiest Ingredients from the editors of the whole living magazine. Each week we all  come up with recipes, stories, articles to encourage eating nourishing food.

Jeanette at jeanetteshealthyliving ; Martha at Simply Nourished Living ; Mireya at Myhealthyeatinghabits ; Alyce at More time at the table ; Casey at My Sweet and Savory;   Minnie at TheLady8Home

These amazing women have been powering through the power foods week after week and I always look forward to their posts. I learn a lot from them and have learned a lot about my food on this journey.

  3. I’ve been wanting to make this too. I wonder how it would be with a little white wine thrown in. Hmmm, going to have to try that.

  4. I love this recipe!! One of my favorite drinks is apple cider and I bet I’m going to like this one even more!

  5. This is absolutely beautiful Ansh. Really nice photos. I’m going to have to pay more attention to this book, you’re finding things I’ve skipped right over.

    • I read it like a book, Lea Ann. and then saw that these two recipes had been calling out to me even when I was not reading the book. And I have always wanted to cook some Mexican food that I could put together in a jiffy. Bayless is amazing, but sometimes you just need something homely.

  6. So tempting and wonderful presentation dear…cool! 🙂
